Aeon Mall Tokoname: Convenient Shopping in the Nagoya Area
Whether you’re headed to Chubu Centrair Airport, or you’re just making the most of your time in Nagoya, Aeon Mall Tokoname is an ideal shopping destination for just about anything you’re looking to buy in Japan. On our recent trip to Tokoname, the Japankuru team stopped by to find huge selections of Japanese snacks and cosmetics (perfect for souvenirs), plenty of tempting anime and game merchandise (perfect for treating yourself), and some unexpected surprises as well.
Aeon Mall Tokoname also shows off the local culture with pride. The mall is dotted with maneki-neko (lucky cats) big and small, a symbol of Tokoname, and there are exhibitions displaying Tokoname ceramics and other bits of local culture. Make the most of your shopping time in Japan, and cross a few things off your shopping list, with our quick guide to Aeon Mall Tokoname.

Tokoname Shopping Recommendations
To cater to shoppers of all ages, Aeon Malls all over Japan generally contain a wide variety of shops, but as a first stop we recommend Aeon Style. This huge shop goes beyond supermarket status, and the one at Aeon Mall Tokoname stocks a wide variety of Japanese cosmetics, and even extras like home goods, along with a full selection of Japanese groceries (including Japanese snacks). For even more unique local snacks, though, we recommend a quick trip to the Quick Go vending machine area on the upper floor. Japan is already known for stocking unique products in their vending machines, and these ones come with a local spin, offering regional snacks, mascot goods, and other souvenirs. We couldn’t resist the chance to try the sodas flavored with unagi (eel) and miso – both surprisingly tasty!
If you’re looking for souvenirs of the inedible sort, we recommend stopping by Capsule Lab and Capcom’s CharaCap. Capsule lab is devoted to a truly breathtaking variety of capsule machines, where you put in a few hundred-yen coins and get a small prize in return. Whether you try for a keychain with your favorite anime character, a small stuffed toy shaped like food, a small reusable shopping bag decorated to look like a popular Japanese product, or any number of other wacky items, is up to you! If you prefer to know exactly what you’re paying for, the selection of anime and game merchandise at CharaCap might be more your speed. Japan is already famous for the unique merchandise offered for just about every popular manga, anime series, or game, and here you’ll find plenty of items from the most popular anime series of the year, and of course Capcom games like Monster Hunter!
Tokoname Food Recommendations
When lunch time rolls around at Aeon Mall Tokoname, we know just where to go. The mall has multiple restaurant areas with plenty of different options, but our recommendation is Ohitsugohan Shirokujichu. Hitsumabushi is a classic Nagoya area dish of grilled unagi (eel) and rice, first eaten plain, and then jazzed up with a selection of toppings and savory broth. We recommend the eel version of the dish wholeheartedly, but other options at the restaurant replace the eel with sashimi or even thinly-sliced beef, for a wider variety of options.
For dessert, matcha lovers will drool over the rich, creamy matcha lattes and matcha tiramisu!
Get Your Shopping Done on Your Next Trip to Nagoya
On our quick trip to Tokoname, the Japankuru team stopped at just a small fraction of Aeon Mall’s 150+ different shops and restaurants. Our short visit focused on some of the souvenirs our team loves best: local snacks, Japanese cosmetics, anime goods, and gashapon prizes – but the mall’s shop lineup includes everything from fashion to home goods, and beyond. Thanks to the convenient location just outside of Rinku-Tokoname Station, Aeon Mall Tokoname is an easy stop for anyone flying in or out of Chubu Centrair Airport, and it’s a quick trip from the heart of Nagoya too. Stop by on your next trip to central Japan to get some serious shopping done, and enjoy a little dose of Tokoname culture while you’re there!
