By partnering with Sanrio, this Tokyo spot is bound to become a popular themed cafe, adding multiple levels of cute to your drinks and sweets with Hello Kitty and friends.

From July 2020 through the end of the year, Sanrio (creator of popular Japanese characters like Hello Kitty and Gudetama) will be partnering with Powder Art Cafe Harajuku for some extra cute sweets. In and of itself, a themed cafe like this is nothing new, and even the same Sanrio characters have made their appearances at Japanese cafes before. But the Powder Art Cafe is a little uniqueーwhen they're not doing Sanrio characters, the point of the cafe is that diners can use their special powder art pens to decorate all the food and drinks with colorful, edible powder.
The pens let visitors do their own latte art, or even sketch their own illustrations on pancakes or Japanese kakigori (かき氷, shaved ice).
But the news of the day is the cafe's Sanrio collaboration, bringing favorites like Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, and Pom Purin into the mix. Limited-time-only drinks, meals, and desserts will come to the table decorated with Sanrio characters, and then the powder art pens can be used to make them even cuter.

Cover this shaved ice in flowers for a little My Melody garden…
Or perhaps Tuxedo Sam could use a new bowtie!
