Illuminations or the snow, haven’t decided which one to go to? The official announcements haven’t been made for the 2019 illuminations yet but here are a few recommendations for you to go to see in 2019.
We have made a list for you to consider for your next trip to Japan during your winter stay.
Although the official announcements haven't been made yet, using our information that we have cumulated over time, we present you the unofficial illuminations list to see in 2019.
(Note that information presented may be slightly different from the official announcement for this year, so please visit each official website for further information. We will also make some changes as we find out any further details.)
JEWELLUMINATION at Yomiuriland (Regional Tokyo)
Millions of bulbs spread across the park just like a carpet, lighting up the entire park.
it is your choice to either have a good stroll or to sit down and relax, of course, you can always take one of the rides anytime you want.
Take the Ferris wheel if you would like to see the lights from up above, the spectacular view will definitely leave you with stunning memories that you'll never forget.

APALLUSION at APA Resort Joetsu Myoko (Niigata)

With over 10 projectors and laser beams lightening up the field, this journey of lights, sound, and images takes your illumination experience to the next level.

Winter Illuminations at Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza (Nagano)

With over a 100,000 LED lights used across the open fields of the shopping centre, your shopping experience will become unforgettable!

Kobe Luminarie: Hyogo

The light-up of the building is the main event held during the season and this year it is going to be held during Dec 6 till Dec 15 at the old residential area near the San-no-miya station and Kobe east park. the illuminations are carried to wish and hope for the city's revival and reconstruction from the Great Hanshin earthquakes in 1995.

Pageant of Starlights: Sendai

Sendai light festival from the beginning of December to New Year's Eve, hundreds of thousands of LED bulbs are wrapped around the tree forming a tunnel of light with a total length of about 800m. It is a nice romantic spot to shop in the evening and get ready for a wonderful Christmas.

The lights go from 5:30 pm till 11 pm everyday during the season.

Hanatouro, Arashiyama: Kyoto

Arashiyama, a famous tourist destination in Kyoto has you covered for the winter illumination season as well.
The famous Togetsu Bridge and the bamboo forest gets lit up during the period of illuminations showing a different face to the tourists visiting in winter.
The Hanatouro this year is on from the 13th of Dec till the 22nd. There will also be an Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement art) show as well as the light-up event.

A winner of "Top30 Attractions in Japan by International Travelers 2017" and being ranked as the top illumination events in Japan for three consecutive years makes this illumination special.
The illuminations are held from mid-October this year till the beginning of May 2020.
